O God, Who strengthened blessed Hermes, Your Martyr, with the virtue of steadfastness in his suffering, grant that, emulating him, and out of love for You, we may look upon worldly success as nought and fear no earthly danger.

Deus, qui beátum Hermétem Mártyrem tuum virtúte constántiæ in passióne roborásti: ex ejus nobis imitatióne tríbue; pro amóre tuo próspera mundi despícere, et nulla ejus advérsa formidáre.

Lesson from the second letter of St Paul the Apostle to Timothy
2 Tim. 2:8-10; 3:10-12.
Beloved: Remember that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and was descended from David; this is my Gospel, in which I suffer even to bonds, as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound. This is why I bear all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with heavenly glory. But you have closely followed my doctrine, my conduct, my purpose, my faith, my long-suffering, my love, my patience, my persecutions, my afflictions; such as befell me at Antioch, Iconium and Lystra - such persecutions as I suffered, and out of them all the Lord delivered me. And all who want to live piously in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Timótheum
2 Tim 2:8-10; 3:10-12.
Ps 36:24, 26
Though the just man fall, he does not lie prostrate, for the hand of the Lord sustains him.
℣. All the day he is kindly and lends, and his descendants shall be blessed. Alleluia, alleluia.
John 8:12
He who follows Me does not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life eternal. Alleluia.
Ps 36:24
Ps 20:4-5.
O Lord, You placed on his head a crown of pure gold; he asked life of You, and You gave it to him. (Alleluia.)
Ps 20:4-5
Posuísti, Dómine, in cápite ejus corónam de lápide pretióso: vitam pétiit a te, et tribuísti ei, allelúja.
We offer You, O Lord, the sacrifice of praise in memory of Your Saints; grant, we beseech You, that what has bestowed glory on them may profit us unto salvation.
Through our Lord…

It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
Communis
John 12:26.
Whoever serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am there also shall My servant be.
Joann 12:26

Filled with heavenly blessings, O Lord, we beseech Your mercy that, by the intercession of blessed Hermes, Your Martyr, we may experience the saving effects of the rite we humbly perform.
